Geographical Distribution
The brown roofed turtle is found in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal. It inhabits the Indus, Ganges and Brahmaputra River drainages across Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan.


General Information  
The breeding season for the brown roofed turtle spans from October to late November. The female lays her eggs in a nest dug in the sandy shore of the river, with nesting observed from late August to November. The clutch size ranges from 7 to 9 eggs. This species is found in fast-flowing rivers, streams, ponds, and areas with abundant vegetation that provide suitable breeding grounds. It typically inhabits medium to large rivers with vegetation. The brown roofed turtle is omnivorous, feeding primarily on monocots, fruits, fish, worms, and prawns. Illegal pet trade, habitat degradation, and loss are the major threats to this species.
